6. Sir Edward6
Stradling (Sir William5,
Sir Edward4,
Sir Edward3,
Peter de2
Estratlinges, John de1)
was born in St. Donat's Castle, Glamorgan, Wales b. 1389. Edward died 5
May 1453 in poss. Jerusalem, at 63 years of age.
Sir Edward fought at Agincourt in 1415 in the retinue
of Duke Humphrey of Gloucester, a brother to Henry V.
He married Jane Beaufort.
Jane was the natural daughter of Henry, Cardinal Beaufort and Alice Fitz
Alan, the daughter of Richard Fitz Alan, Earl of Arundel.
Henry Beaufort was the natural son of John Plantagenet,
a. k. a. John of Gaunt, Duke of Lancaster, by Katherine Swynford, whom
he later married. Katherine was the widow of Sir Hugh Swynford and
the daughter of Sir Payne Rouet, a knight of Hainault. After John's
marriage to Katherine, their children, surnamed Beaufort, were legitimized
by Act of Parliament.
Because of this alliance with the house of Lancaster,
the Stradling family's fortune and status were at their peaks during his
lifetime.
Inspired by the actions of his father, he made a
pilgrimage to Jerusalem at the age of sixty-three. He was also
made a Knight of the Holy Sepulchre, and died shortly thereafter.
Sir Edward Stradling and Jane Beaufort had the following child:
+ 7 i. Sir
