He married Mary Ann Godwin in Muscatine co., IA, 16 Mar 1871. Mary was born in OH 3 Sep 1853. Mary was the daughter of Peter Godwin and Mary Ann Kemp. Mary died 9 Jun 1945 in Hazelton, Barber co., KS, at 91 years of age.

Joseph Paul Hardesty and Mary Ann Godwin had the following children:

+ 21 ii. Myrtle Lavera Hardesty was born 14 Mar 1874.

+ 22 iii. Franklin James Hardesty was born 28 Jan 1876.

24 v. William J. "Willie" Hardesty was born in Minneapolis, Ottawa co., KS 29 Jun 1879. William died 18 Oct 1918 in Wichita, Sedgewick co., KS, at 39 years of age. He married Louise Stewart Sep 1908. Louise was born 28 Nov 1889. Louise died 14 May 1969 at 79 years of age. William and Louise had no issue.

25 vi. James Garfield Hardesty was born in Meredith twp, Cloud co., KS 9 Jul 1881. James died 22 Jan 1913 in Meredith twp, Cloud co., KS, at 31 years of age. His body was interred Jan 1913 in Meredith twp, Cloud co., KS, Bethel Cemetery. He married Effie Elizabeth Davis Righter 26 Aug 1903. Effie was born in Cloud co., KS 4 Apr 1877. Effie died 1 Nov 1927 in Ottawa co., KS, at 50 years of age. Her body was interred 3 Nov 1927 in Delphos, Ottawa co., KS, Delphos Cemetery. James and Effie had no issue.

26 vii. Elmer J. Hardesty was born in Meredith twp, Cloud co., KS 26 Dec 1883. Elmer died 20 Apr 1885 in Meredith twp, Cloud co., KS, at 1 year of age. His body was interred 22 Apr 1885 in Meredith twp, Cloud co., KS, Bethel Cemetery.

+ 27 viii. Martin Hardesty was born 27 Dec 1885.

+ 28 ix. Mary Elizabeth Hardesty was born 11 Sep 1887.

29 x. Dolly G. Hardesty was born in Meredith twp, Cloud co., KS 11 Oct 1889. Dolly died 18 Jun 1938 in Albuquerque, Bernalillo co., NM, at 48 years of age. She married Roscoe Law Robinson in Medicine Lodge, Barber co., KS, 6 Jun 1907. Roscoe was born in Wagon Train, WV 12 Sep 1880. Roscoe died 25 Jul 1931 in Albuquerque, Bernalillo co., NM, at 50 years of age.

30 xi. Harry S. Hardesty was born in Meredith twp, Cloud co., KS 2 Jun 1891. Harry died 11 Mar 1971 in Wichita, Sedgewick co., KS, at 79 years of age. He married Lillian Bonita Maxwell 9 Mar 1918. Lillian was born in Lampasas, Lampasas co., TX 10 Aug 1896.

31 xii. Eva G. Hardesty was born in Isabella, Major co., OK 25 May 1893. Eva died 19 Mar 1967 in Albuquerque, Bernalillo co., NM, at 73 years of age. Never married.

32 xiii. Glen Albert "Babe" Hardesty was born in Isabella, Major co., OK 22 Jun 1895. Glen died 26 Dec 1972 in El Dorado, Butler co., KS, at 77 years of age. He married Hazel Richardson in Medicine Lodge, Barber co., KS, 8 Jun 1922. Hazel was born in Leon, Butler co., KS 6 Apr 1899.
