James¹² Bowen (Mary¹¹ Phillips, Elizabeth¹⁰ Griffith, Jane⁹ Stradling, Thomas⁸, Sir Henry "Harry"⁷, Sir Edward⁶, Sir William⁵, Sir Edward⁴, Sir Edward³, Peter de² Estratlinges, John de¹) was born in Llwyngwair, Pembroke, Wales ca. 1550. James died 1629 in Carmarthen, Dyfed, Wales, at 79 years of age.

He married Ellen Griffith 1578.

James Bowen and Ellen Griffith had the following child:
